日本と違って、この若者たちは数年以内にみんな辞めちゃう。どこか次の仕事に旅立っていく。イチからずっと育てていく、ということが通用しない。一期一会的で、全力でぶつかり合えるし、さわやかだ。意外だったけど、いい仕事のためには徹夜もするし休日出勤もする。いい仲間。しかしちょっと寂しい。僕は日本人だから、日本の、会社の先輩が利害関係を超えて後輩を育てる、という仕組みがとっても好きだし、僕もそうやって育ててもらったし、ずっと続いてほしいと思う。正直、日本の若い人たちには、そう簡単に会社を辞めないでほしいとも思う。会社を好きになって、会社をとことん利用して、個人ではできない面白い仕事をしてほしいと思う。ここアメリカでも、弊社の若者たちに、同じ仲間と長く働く良さをもう一度、日本から伝えられないかとも思う。甘いかな。聞くところによれば、今おじいちゃんくらいの歳のアメリカ人たちは、終身雇用で、とってもすてきな会社生活を過ごしていたんだそうです。しかしその後アメリカはジョブホッピング文化へと変わり、日本もそれを見習いつつある。
どっちが正解かは、まだ僕には分からないです。
